Bottle Buddy Nominated for Prestigious Innovation Award at Kind + Jugend 2009

Bottle Buddy the world’s only baby formula dispensing product which accurately counts a pre-set amount of powdered infant into a baby’s bottle has been shortlisted for the prestigious Innovation Award at Kind + Jugend 2009.

Alan McElligott’s appearance on the BBC’s prestigious Dragon’s Den programme in July generated a lot of press, orders and product awareness. Jo Jo Maman Bebe has doubled its original order and the company has started taking orders from international buyers, including large orders from Hong Kong and Ireland as well as other UK retailers. Traffic to the website has also increased and consumer pre-orders are growing too with the Bottle Buddy arriving in the UK at the beginning of September.

Bottle Buddy is being launched at a time when recent medical research reported that errors in miscounting scoops of formula when making up a baby’s bottle can lead to childhood obesity by overdosing the bottles and undernourishment from bottles that do not have enough formula in them. Using Bottle Buddy to accurately make up a baby’s bottle with powdered formula overcomes some of the serious health risks associated with formula feeding.

On average more than 90% of parents bottle feed and they put about 10,000 scoops of infant or follow-on formula into bottles in the first year of a baby’s life. That’s a lot of time spent scooping and it’s easy to miscount the amount of formula you put in the bottle especially when you are holding a crying, hungry baby and trying to make up a bottle at the same time.

Using Bottle Buddy to make up a baby’s bottle is convenient, quick and easy to use, it saves time and it ensures that every bottle contains the right amount of formula every time. Bottle Buddy is set to become an indispensible product for parents feeding their babies powdered infant or follow-on formula.

The Bottle Buddy has a rrp of £34.99/€44.99/$49.99 and is available to order directly from Baby Buddy on 08450 780 394 or email Nicola@babybuddy.eu

Editor’s notes:

Correctly putting the right amount of formula into a bottle by using Bottle Buddy to make up formula feeds eliminates human error and reduces the short and long term health risks associated with too much or too little formula.

There are a number of signs that parents should look out for that indicate that a baby is being fed too much or too little formula
slower-than-normal weight gain
diminished urine output
a loose, wrinkly appearance to baby's skin
persistent crying
Signs that a baby is being fed too much at each feeding are:
a lot of spitting up or profuse vomiting immediately after the feeding
colicky abdominal pain (baby draws his legs up onto a tense abdomen) immediately after feeding
excessive weight gain

Bottle Buddy is simple to use, is compatible with all brands of infant and follow-on formula and is BPA free. It works at the touch of a button and is dishwasher safe and easy to clean and sterilise.

Bottle Buddy is set to become an indispensible convenience for parents who feed their babies with formula powdered milk.

The Bottle Buddy is available from http://www.babybuddy.eu/ and from JoJo Maman Bebe soon and retails for £34.99.

Mothers attending infant welfare clinics were asked to measure milk powder from a standard packet with the scoop provided by the manufacturers. Wide variations were found in the weight of powder obtained, with the highest scoop weight (5.6 g) being double the lowest (2.8g). It is suggested that the scoop method of measuring milk powder is so inaccurate that the manufacturers should present their product in small pre-measured packets.

Studies carried out by the British Medical Journal have found that manual scooping can result in the 'over-concentrating' or 'under-concentrating' of babies bottles.
